So far, I've changed out four 15 inch trailer tires (6 ply rated) and two 12 inch compact tractor tires (4 ply rated). There's a roll pin on the crank handle that tightens the clamps (3 places) up to hold the rim while you remove the tire from same. It sheared while working on tire number three. So, I replaced that and it hasn't sheared since. However, the acme tooth treaded bar on which the tightening clamp travels is starting to bow. I expect it to fail next. Bottom line is it works pretty good, but i'm not sure how my tires i'll get to replace it on before it breaks and i can't repair it. Also, you'll need more tools than provided. I've been using a flat nail puller tool to assist in getting the tires on and off.
The instructions say "Motorcycle and Mini Tire Changer". The page on amazon says "Tire Changer 4" - 16.5" Diameter Adjustable Jaw Clamps"First I have to say so far I have only tried to use this unit on one tire which it failed miserably at. If I find this is a fluke I will revise my review. Maybe it works better in warmer weather.
I mounted the unit to a pallet as suggested by another reviewer here.
I purchased the unit to change the front tire on my little kobota tractor. The tire sidewall was so soft that the shoe on the bead beak breaker slid down the tire wall instead of pushing on the bead. It is no better then one of the several make shift methods for bead breaking.
I purchased a BeadBuster XB-450 ATV Tire Bead Breaker Tool which worked.
Once the bead was off I only managed to get one side of the tire off the rim.
The pins that position 2 of the 3 rim jaws are too small for the holes. They can easily fall out.
I could live with it if it works. I intend to give it a second chance. But at this moment I regret the purchase.
