Nitto Trail Grappler M/T Radial Tire - 295/70R18 129Q

  • Tire Type: MUD TERRAIN

I have these mounted on a 2005 Ford Excursion 4x4 V10 with a 4" lift. Weighs 7400 pounds.

This is my third set of Nittos, first I had the Terra Grapplers 325/60/18 and they were all around great got 50,000 miles out of them. Then I went to the Dune Grappler 325/65/18 and they were great for dry street driving but were horrible in the rain (hydroplaned) and got chewed up pretty easy in the AZ rocky desert, got 55,000 miles out of them.

The Trail Grappler is quiet for a mud terrain, it's not silent but better than Swampers or the Mud Grappler. It is rated for a little over 4000 pounds per tire but the tread is so deep and soft that even at 80psi it feels like the tire is mushy and the vehicle sways a little (worse when towing). I adjusted my mirror and watched the sidewall and swerved on purpose at about 55mph and the sidewall didn't flex at all but it still feels like I am running on a tire at 10psi. Oh well, when they are worn out and the tread is gone I'll have a nice stiff tire to tow with. I've got almost 5000 miles on them and I can already see the tread wear so I'd expect to see around 40,000 miles out of these on my heavy SUV.

When these are worn out I'm going back to the Terra Grappler or the BFG A/T.
