- Tire Type: PASSENGER TOURING ALL SEASON

Summary:
Including installation and protection coverage, for roughly $40 more (+7%) than some probably very decent, quality tires I almost bought for which I could find no 3rd party review comparisons, I got these tires that Consumer Reports say are among the top safest, low noise, etc. all-season tires out there.
Details:
I went to the big regional chain that has a great reputation for customer service and I asked for their best tire for my car they carry and it is $585 installed.
I got out consumer reports and looked into the best T and H level tires. Since my OEM tires were H I chose the highest rated of the H tires, and this tire, Michelin Primacy MXV4 was at the top. I only reviewed the top 2 in each category. Two was not arbitrary, it just looked like performance-wise the top 2 in each category came out best in their tests.
Availability of the non-Michelin top 2 tires appeared to be an issue in the installer places I called in town, so I went with the top H rated Michelin tire. I'm sure if I showed some patience for them to stock up I could have saved a little money buying those #2 listed tires (Two of the Continental tires, one type each for speeds T and H), but my tires were cracking and I just wanted it done with.
I got these tires at America's Tire (first time going there) as their reviews seemed pretty good and I liked the location of one of their shops, and they carried Michelin in stock, and they matched a competitor at $625 for all four, including installation.
Note: Remember when comparing prices to include the valve stems and the coverage protection because some web sites leave that out to be more price competitive.
Note:
The Michelin Defender tires were rated in consumer reports as top for T rated tires and they would be expected to last significantly longer than the Primacy making them perhaps a better dollar value probably. I spent more for the Primacy tires because of the general recommendation to use a tire at the same speed value as the OEM tires (H in this case) and some of the consumer reports Primacy quality categories did a bit better than the defender.
