The title says it all. Come on, a plastic hub/wheel with molded rubber tire for $35? If the mower wasn't so new, I'd have passed on the repair! Hell, I only paid $130 for the mower new!
This OEM part came stock on my mid-late-2000s Troy-Bilt push mower and is found on a number of other various MTD mowers. It did not take much for the plastic "hubs" to break with mild use (I have a riding mower for the majority of my yardwork). Once the plastic hubs break, the wheels wobble badly.Do yourself a favor and replace your broken MTD/Troy-Bilt/YardMan/etc mower wheels with aftermarket wheels with metal ball-bearings, races, bushings in the hub (usually approx $20 each). Just pay attention to axle bolt diameter (0.5 inch) and wheels diameter and hub width.
The wheel shafts are 1/2" (0.5-inch) diameter where the hub rides, with a shoulder for the 3/8"-16TPI lock-nut to tighten against. A wheel with a too narrow hub might need bushings or stainless fender washers to reduce wobble/play (but not too much bushing that the lock-nut cinches up the hub). On my Troy-Bilt 540-series mower, the rear wheel shafts are 2-1/2" long (2.5-inch) and the front wheel shafts are 1-7/16" long (1.4375-inch) to the shoulder.
I have had a tough time finding a match. Managed to find "Replacement Lawn Mower Wheel for MTD # 734-1860 , 734-1871" by Stens (ASIN: B000GH4ZIK) on this site from an outside vendor. Local wallymart has a "12 inch grey spoke high wheel" with metal bearings that might fit (~20USD ea). May have to use stainless fender washers to bush the wheels a little.
UPDATE: went with the "12 inch grey spoke high wheel" from wallymart (you cannot find it on their website, was just available locally). It fit great with one 1/2" stainless fender washer on the backside. My local wallymart only carry these wheels one-at-a-time so I bought one and then wait for the supply system to stock another (a little more than one week).
