OTC 7180 Universal Bearing Cup Installer

  • Used to install cups ranging in size from 3-5/8 inch O.D. to 6-1/2 inch O.D
  • Turn the expander to the left or right to adjust the installer jaw diameter to the approximate same size as the bearing cup inside diameter
  • Finger tighten the nut to prevent the expander from moving once the jaw diameter has been set and install the bearing cup
  • Weight is 11 lbs.

I was installing cups in the 3.8 inch to 4.5 inch range. I could find no other products claiming to do that. I did several and the OTC 7180 made a bearing cup installer out of me. A hard faced dead-blow hammer worked nice, but not essential. I'm not a pro, just someone who wants to be able to service this kind of thing to keep going.

i maintain a fleet of ~140 class 7 vehicles and change out bearing cups on average six axles a month. i haven't found a better tool for the job than the OTC 7180. i have modified mine to do cup removals which saves iron hubs from the deforming glancing blows from a hammered straight drift. my only problem with the tool is that the roll pins that secure the jaws wear out rather quickly. i replaced them with grade 8 bolts and have had no problem since. OTC includes a complete replacement parts list and contact information with the tool. best of all it is made in the USA. God bless em.
